چکیده
Wildfires can drastically change rangeland by depositing ash contaminated with metals that are not part of normal diets. This pose health threats to humans and animals. risk, along alterations essential minerals in livestock grazing on regrowth burnt lands, is well known. To better understand this, our study investigated metal concentrations water, soil, plant forage, meat wool sheep the burned lands. We compared grazed stored samples from a year prior wildfire. Lead, mercury, arsenic, molybdenum, cadmium, beryllium, cobalt nickel were detected above reporting limits meat, or water samples. Contamination chromium thallium was three 26 regrowth. These 22 before. Copper found animals lower than unburned pastures; it important monitor copper avoid diseases associated deficiency.

Experiments described were conducted to define the vitamin A status of ewes and lambs grazing orchardgrass fertilized at various levels of N or N plus micro-elements. Four fertilizer treatments (56 kg N/ha; 168 kg N/ha; 504 kg N/ha; 504 kg N/ha + Co, Cu, Mo, Zn and S) were applied to replicated hay and pasture plots of Potomac orchardgrass on a Gilpin silt loam soil. Ewe lambs were allocated ra...

Pastures located on southern Iowa cow/calf farms, from 8 to 125 ha in size, were used to evaluate the effects of microclimate, shade, botanical composition, and other pasture characteristics influencing the temporal/ spatial distribution of cattle within and outside streamside zones of pastures. Cows were Angus and Angus-cross on 4 of the farms, and Mexican Corriente on the remaining farm. Duri...

The objective of this study was to compare summer annuals for fall and winter grazing on irrigated pastures in the Intermountain West. The cool desert areas of this region have short growing seasons (≤120 d) with high daytime temperatures and cool nights resulting in sufficent growing degree days, but impaired production on cool season forages during late summer. Five species were planted in Ca...
متن کاملSustained Inflation at Birth Did Not Alter Lung Injury from Mechanical Ventilation in Surfactant-Treated Fetal Lambs
BACKGROUND Sustained inflations (SI) are used with the initiation of ventilation at birth to rapidly recruit functional residual capacity and may decrease lung injury and the need for mechanical ventilation in preterm infants. However, a 20 second SI in surfactant-deficient preterm lambs caused an acute phase injury response without decreasing lung injury from subsequent mechanical ventilation....
